15-year-old aspiring NASCAR champion Matthew Tifft spoke before a packed house of Rotary members and guests August 16th at The Tangier in Akron, Ohio. The topic – speed.

Matt explained what drives him to pursue his life-long dream of winning races in Indianapolis, Chicago and Daytona on his way to becoming a national racing champion. He dispelled common myths by explaining that even though media attention is largely focused on the driver, racing is very much a team sport – sometimes having up to 60 people teaming together to get just one race car to victory circle.

Matt started racing high-performance go-karts just four years ago – at the age of 11. He quickly won two championship titles before moving up to bigger and faster machines. He's already proven that he's fast on the track and he proved that he's a winner off the track as well – tall, fit, polite, articulate – a sponsor's perfect dream.

Though he spends some time promoting the sponsors he does have now, he constantly works with his father and team to build new relationships and look for support of his 100 million-dollar racing budget over the next few years. The marketing and business aspects of his racing business will only get more involved as he climbs the ladder to success.

His two-part presentation started with a PowerPoint in our meeting room and finished with a special show and tell outside. He brought his race car to the meeting to show us his '150-mph office'. To liven things up, he fired up the large crowd that stayed beyond our normal 1 PM ending time by firing up his 800 horsepower engine.

The wow factor of this meeting and this star-on-the-rise was like nothing we've ever seen before. In response to pre-meeting announcements of Matt's scheduled appearance, we saw meeting attendance almost double compared to our regular numbers.
