Well everyone, our club is really hitting its stride. I keep saying that all this Club does is achieve every goal it sets out to accomplish … and what amazes me is that every time I turn around, I see that statement in action over and over and over again. I truly hope you know how special you are, how much you accomplish and how much respect I have for each and every one of you!

I am keenly aware of how busy life is in 2012, how tough it can be to build fellowship and philanthropy into your daily schedule and how hard it is to say yes, and cannot thank each and every one of you enough for all of your fine work.

In the last month, we have inducted another four new members. I think that makes 20 this Rotary Year and I have no doubt we will have another 5-10 before I am evicted in June. A very special thanks to Lance and his committee for all their hard work. I believe that the recent increase in membership is a trend that is likely to continue for a number of years as we continue to “Tell the story and protect the legacy”.

We also just concluded one of the most enjoyable Chili Opens ever. From sponsors to Rotarians to patrons, everyone was smiling from ear to ear and simply having a blast. The blanket of gently falling snow from above was the perfect complement to a well organized, well funded and fun event that went off without a hitch. We experienced some new things this year that really enhanced the event, not the least of which was the Chili Eating Contest. Who knew Tom Gedelian’s family could eat like that? Tom, how do you stay so thin? Along the lines of everything is a learning experience, I am certain our kitchen will help us cool the chili before we serve it to the contestants next year. Watching the steam come off the chili during the competition made me remember the first time I burned my mouth eating fresh out-of the oven pizza. I was excited to jump right in…it hurt sooooo good.

I don’t want to spoil Bill’s surprise, but we might have not only exceeded every goal Bill and his wonderful committee set, but we also may have had our best year ever. More to come as all the sponsorships come in!

Having chaired the event many times in the past, I know how difficult this event is to pull off and Bill and his committee made it look easy, which it isn’t. Thanks for making a great product, even better.

Please take some time over the next few weeks, pat yourselves on the back and celebrate the wonderful accomplishments our club has achieved over the last few months. You are exceptional people and one heck of a team!

Grateful you allow me to hang with you,

Mark
