The month of June has finally brought us summer weather and marks the final month of my Rotary presidential year.  As much of a cliché as it sounds, the year really did go by fast.  It has a bittersweet feeling, happy to pass the baton to Mark but also wishing for more time to lead some projects.  We started to learn more about each other with less focus on outside speakers and more focus on ourselves.

Our club was fortunate to have such great representation as Stew Buchanan for our District Governor.  His “bigger, better, bolder” theme resonated in our club, mainly witnessed in our revamped club committees.  I feel we are in a great position to move forward and grow our club.  I personally am looking forward to getting involved in these initiatives, especially the service committee.  My biggest goal coming in as president was to focus on a literacy/reading program for school age children.  After some initial planning and a small step forward with the Read to Me Day, it was clear our club needed to turn some attention inward.  As Past President in less than a month, I intend to do my part to make this project another Rotary success.

It was an honor to be a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for our Camp’s ground breaking.  There are times you watch large dreams unfold and then you wake to realize you are part of it.  No matter how small the contribution, we all have the chance to make a difference.  We have been very blessed to have strong partnerships with business owners and wonderful humanitarians along the way.

I want to thank all of the board members and committee chairs who have helped serve our Rotary this year.  All of your help and attention to our club business was well appreciated and respected.   There is also a large group of you that always continue to share and inspire (and remind!) us why we continue to meet weekly and are proud to be called Akron Rotarians.

Yours in Rotary,

Janet
