During the past month the following projects were taken to a successful conclusion:

Shoe Box Project for Nicaragua – 50 boxes of personal items for the impoverished children were prepared for shipment.  Thanks to Samantha Coldwell and Ben Heckerman who headed up the project and thanks also to everyone who contributed money and the items needed to fill the boxes.  The boxes will be shipped and distributed to children at Christmastime as a reward for their efforts to attend school and receive an education under very difficult circumstances.

Salvation Army Summer Reading Program – this program took place on Mondays throughout the summer under the leadership of Barbara Hunsicker.  The focus was on improving reading skills of elementary school students in a relaxed environment.  Although the numbers varied from week to week, there were 18 to 25 children who participated in the program.  This is the last week for the summer program and our thanks go to all those who volunteered to help.

Keep Akron Beautiful Awards – Rotary volunteers carried out surveys of predefined areas of Akron to identify and nominate outstanding residences, businesses and organizations for beautification awards.  Each route required approximately 8 hours of volunteer time to complete during the month of July.  We extend a sincere thank you to all those who participated.

Rotary Camp Support  Rotarians volunteered at the camp on Sunday afternoons to welcome the incoming campers along with their families.  Thank you Oscar Hunsicker for organizing this support effort.
The committee will now focus on lining up projects for the coming months.
