Max was appointed director of the Canton Museum of Art (CMA) in 2014 and is guiding this cultural gem towards its 90th anniversary in 2025. CMA features original exhibitions focused on American art and artists, ranging from Impressionism and Realism to Pop and Contemporary genres. The Museum also provides art education programs in schools, offers numerous art classes for all ages, and presents a wide range of special events and programs that connect art to life in the community – serving more than 45,000 participants each year.

Max served as CMA’s associate director and marketing director from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, he was director of corporate communications and investor relations for Myers Industries in Akron, Ohio, advancing through several leadership positions over 18 years with the New York Stock Exchange-listed company.

From 1991 to 1993, Max was marketing coordinator for the College of Fine & Applied Arts at The University Akron. He began his career in the arts in 1988 as marketing specialist at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville, Kentucky, coordinating statewide and national programs for performing and visual arts education, including programming with the Louisville Ballet, Louisville Orchestra, Kentucky Opera, The Kennedy Center, and more.

Max earned a Masters degree in Arts Administration with a concentration in finance from The University of Akron. He holds a Masters in Theology from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, and a BA in Theology and Political Science, with a minor in Art History, from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.
