This could possibly be THE greatest year in the history of this Rotary Club and I am honored to be leading the way. Thanks to Bill Manby, Jr. who directed us so brilliantly this past year, and with the help of so many of you sacrificing your time, treasures, and talents, the club is in great shape. The Rotary International theme for this year is

Engage Rotary-Change Lives” and that is exactly what continues to happen in this amazing club.

Consider some of the things we have accomplished and will experience this year:

  • We will complete our $ 3.5 million capital campaign this fall
  • The camp’s new cabins and Great Hall are beautiful
  • The Chili Open, Dictionary Project, Keep Akron Beautiful, Salvation Army summer reading program
  • Outbound exchange student Sydney representing us in France and Nam inbound from Korea
  • Collaboration between the club, camp, and the foundation is making tremendous progress
  • We are “this close” to ending polio. Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have not stopped the transmission of the disease. It would be cool to see this disease wiped off the face of the earth NOW because of the efforts of Rotarians around the globe

This 2013-2014 Rotary year will be a milestone for our club as we celebrate 100 years of Rotary Service to our community and world. Committee chairs are selected and are preparing for an amazing Centennial Celebration slated for April 5, 2014. I encourage every Akron Rotarian to seek out where your talents can be best utilized, get engaged, and help us make this a birthday party like none other as we are

“Honoring the Past-Driving the Future” 1914-2014.

It is a great time to be an Akron Rotarian. I look forward to working along side of you for the next twelve months and I thank you in advance for your service.

Gratefully,

Lance
