The Rotary Club of Akron’s Board of Directors met on Tuesday, September 15th and the following items were discussed:
 
President-Elect Jeff Sitz represented the Akron Rotary Club at a Rotary Cluster meeting.  The Cluster includes Akron, Barberton, Fairlawn, Port Summit and Tallmadge clubs.  We meet periodically to share club news and cross-promote activities.
 
Directors approved a resolution honoring late Rotarian Harry Stewart.  It will be presented to his family.
 
 
 
Nominating Committee Chair Shon Christy presented the slate of candidates for the 2016-2017 Akron Rotary Directors and Officers. Watch for the ballot to be presented later this year with details and voting instructions.
 
Chair of the Rotarian Youth Exchange program, Susan Colville-Hall, reported that Gabriel is back in school following his bout with Chicken Pox…
 
Potential Rotarian Rachel D'Attoma, Executive Director of the Summit/Portage County Chapter of The American Red Cross, was presented by Chair Steve Shechter on behalf of the Membership Committee. Rachel was proposed by Jim Redmond.  He also announced that six new candidates have completed their membership process are being scheduled for inductions.
 
Director Ginny Wojno reported that she’s called all but six of the Rotarians who’ve missed lunch in the past several months.  Ginny is part of the new Rotary Cares Committee asked to reach out to Rotarians we haven’t seen to make sure all is well.
 
Marcia Holcomb reported on behalf of the Rotary International Foundation that the newest Paul Harris Fellow lottery winners will be inducted at a lunch meeting in the coming weeks.
 
Kaley Foster, Chair of the Service Projects Committee, provided an update Akron Rotary’s ongoing service projects. Immediate calls to action include:
  • Salvation Army After School Reading Program – volunteers are neededto read to 20 students on Mondays from 4-5 pm.  Sign up via ClubRunner!
  • Meals on Wheels is on-going the second Saturday of each month from 8:30-11:30 am.  Rotarians deliver meals.
  • Rotarians are asked to donate items for Akron Snow Angels including:  toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and cold weather items such as coats, mittens, hats, scarves, etc. during the months of October and November.  Collections will take place at Tuesday lunches.
The next meeting of the Akron Rotary Club Board of Directors is scheduled for October 13th at 11:00 am at the Portage Country Club.
