Live entertainment, Irish Dancers, and learn about the history of Irish Dance
Welcome to MacConmara Academy of Irish Dance
At MacConmara Academy, we are dedicated to inspiring a love for Irish dance while fostering creativity, discipline, and self-expression in every student. Our mission is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where dancers of all ages and abilities can thrive. Through expert instruction, a strong sense of community, and opportunities to celebrate Irish culture, we empower our students to achieve their personal best—both on and off the dance floor.
Our Story
MacConmara Academy was founded in 2009 by Teresa Buck, alongside a team of experienced instructors, with the goal of preserving and sharing the rich traditions of Irish dance. The school’s name, MacConmara (Gaelic for McNamara), is a tribute to Teresa’s grandmother, Kay McNamara-Seeman, whose encouragement and passion for Irish culture inspired generations to embrace traditional Irish dance.
Expert Instruction & Competitive Success
Our instructors are certified by the Irish Dancing Commission (CLRG) and bring years of experience in both competitive and performance dance. Under their guidance, MacConmara Academy dancers have excelled at the Midwest Oireachtas, North American Championships, All-Ireland Championships and World Championships, earning recognition for their dedication and talent.
Classes & Performances
We offer a variety of classes tailored to dancers of all levels—from beginners taking their first steps to championship-level competitors. In addition to competition training, our dancers perform at festivals, parades, and cultural events, sharing the joy and energy of Irish dance with the community. Our studio is a newly built state of the art facility with 2 dance rooms and professionally installed Harlequin sprung dance floors. New to 2025, Music Lessons will be starting soon!!
I am sure you have seen the posts on the service project for this year’s All Ohio Presidents-Elect Training Seminar which will be held mid-March in Columbus; Soles4Souls. Every year, the District Governors agree on a project that will fill the need for a non-profit group in our area. This year, we chose Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization that provides new athletic shoes for children in need.
Often children will miss school as they do not have the basic necessities they need to attend, including shoes. This project will provide shoes to children in Ohio; including our district. For each $20 donation, a child in our state will receive a new pair of durable tennis shoes to wear. It is a great project and we hope to improve the lives of many children.
The service project has always been a friendly competition between the Presidents-Elect of each District, and the district with the highest donation level wins the bragging rights of the conference.
Just like many things we do in Rotary, it is a fun event for all and helps children in need.
I am asking all District 6630 Rotarians to consider making a donation of $20 or more in the name of your club’s President-Elect along with congratulations and best wishes for their year. Each message is recorded on the website donation page for all to see. In addition, I will share your best wishes with your President-Elect, so they see the support they have from all of you.
It is a special Rotarian that volunteers for this role of your club’s leader. If you can, please make a donation and add in the comments your congratulations and support. I will keep you all posted on our results.
The purpose of Rotary Cares is to show our support for Akron Rotary members and their families when dealing with the loss of a loved one, the hardship of illness and also to celebrate the joy of a new baby, job, marriage or other events in their lives. Please <Click to Email us> to let us know of any news you would like placed here. Note that health related information is posted only with permission of the individual(s).

The presentation of the prestigious H. Peter Burg Economic Development Leadership Award presentation toRichard (Rick) Rogers, Executive Director of Curated Storefront will take place Wednesday March 12 at 4:15 pm at John S. Knight Center. Click here for more information.
Congratulations Rick!
The Greater Akron Chamber has announced that Richard Rogers, Executive Director of Curated Storefront, and former owner of Tribute Software and B.W. Rogers Company, has been selected to receive the 2025 H. Peter Burg Economic Development Leadership Award.
Rick will be honored at the Chamber’s annual meeting on March 12, 2025, at the John S. Knight Center, and will be the 20th recipient of the award. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available at greaterakronchamber.org.
This award was created in 2004 in memory of H. Peter Burg by the Chamber’s Executive Committee to recognize leaders who demonstrate a commitment to economic and community development in the Greater Akron region.
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Rick has made his mark on our region and community in countless ways. From his leadership as an entrepreneur and business leader, to his commitment to economic development and his focus on creative placemaking using art, Rick has a passion for Akron and has spent his life and career working to advance the community.
“I believe that the arts and artists can play an important role in the economic resurgence of post-industrial rust belt cities like Akron. I am honored to be a part of the effort to revitalize downtown and bring attention to everything that it has to offer to all who work, visit, and live here,” said Rogers.
A consummate entrepreneur with an innate propensity for leadership, Rick began his career in 1980 as founder and president of Tribute, a software company based in Akron, Ohio. In 1994, he assumed leadership of B. W. Rogers Company, a manufacturing and distribution company founded by his grandfather. Over the course of twenty years, Rick expanded the family business from six offices in the state of Ohio to twenty-one offices spanning seven states. He assembled and led a diverse team of over 250 people, and it was through his ability to identify talent and cultivate a sense of creativity and independence in his employees that his company was able to thrive and contribute to the economic vitality of his beloved hometown.
Rick is also the founder and executive director of Curated Storefront, an organization that fosters community and economic growth in and around Akron, Ohio by fueling artistic innovation, commissioning public art, expanding access to arts education, and nurturing a thriving cultural ecosystem. Launched in 2016 as a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Knight Arts Challenge grantee, Curated Storefront leverages art commissions, exhibitions, and educational programs to engage the community with meaningful cultural experiences. The organization has featured the work of 150 regional and international artists and engaged thousands of individuals. To date, 14 buildings activated with exhibits have been commercially developed or revitalized post project start. In addition to public art
exhibitions, Curated Storefront also provides subsidized artist studios and implements an artist residency program at the LeBron James Family Foundation’s I Promise School.
Most recently, Rick played a key role in the Lock 3 project in Downtown Akron, working alongside the Knight Foundation, Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, and others to bring the concept to life. And as a result of his advocacy for the inclusion of art in Lock 3, Curated Storefront is commissioning and installing a sculpture garden featuring the work of internationally acclaimed artists, including Chakaia Booker.
He currently serves as treasurer of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, is a board member of the Museum of Ceramic Art – New York, and a leading collector of contemporary ceramics from Asia and the US and twentieth-century American and European design. Rick also serves on the board of directors at Akron Children’s Hospital and was a former board member at Boys and Girls Club of Western Reserve; Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron; and the Akron Art Museum—an illustration of his ongoing commitment to give back, lead, and lend his perspectives to key efforts driving our community and our region forward.
“Rick is committed to our community and his work illustrates what leaders can accomplish when they channel their passion and their expertise into projects, initiatives, and most importantly, impact,” said Steve Millard, President and CEO of the Greater Akron Chamber. “His success as a business owner is impressive. And, his focus on being a part of the change we need in downtown development, placemaking and the Arts is creating a lasting mark on our city and our region.” Steve added, “We are fortunate to have leaders like Rick in our community who, like Pete Burg, are willing to go beyond their own business interests and invest their time and money in the opportunity they see for our region.”
Rick joins a group of notable community leaders including Richard Kramer, Rick Fedorovich, County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Roger Read, S. Theresa Carter, the late Philip Maynard, and others as H. Peter Burg Economic Development Leadership Award recipients.

George Rosche owns and operates the Chick-fil-A on Dressler Road in North Canton, and previously worked a 21-year career with Owens Corning in a variety of senior leadership roles. George and Janine both graduated from Ohio State in 2001, and both later completed Masters degrees.
Although his background was not in fast-food service, when the opportunity presented itself, he jumped in with both feet and the support of his family to purchase the franchise.
He discussed the history and values of Chick-fil-A and the impact their internal processes have on building character, sustainability and helping communities.
The franchisees and corporate organization are dedicated to the communities they serve and give back through helping with fundraisers, the local food banks and many other avenues. They also have a special, highly developed program, that allows them to avoid wasting food products they can then give to those in need. Roche graciously matched our Happy Dollar donations that are going toward the Soles for Souls campaign that our President-Elect Katy Miller is working on for the District.
Their vision is to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A.
He played a very impactful video called Every Life Has A Story. You can view it HERE or copy and paste this link: https://youtu.be/BWNfzVAofcQ
The PowerPoint slides (PDF) he shared are available to download by clicking HERE.
George and Janine both served as volunteer Young Life leaders as young adults and have since served on Young Life committees and boards including here in Stark County. George is a musician with the band Willy Pete, a band whose mission is to serve the troops through entertainment, encouragement, and music therapy to those wounded emotionally or physically through military service. George has previously served on leadership teams for Storyline Church (Denver, CO), and Five Lakes Church (Toledo, OH), has previously served on worship teams at various churches, and currently serves as an Elder at First Christian Church in Canton.
Happy New Year! I hope that each of you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season overall!
It's that time of year again where I send out everyone's favorite email - plus, you will get to hear my voice even more than usual at club meetings (cue the eyerolls and groans - I know you can't wait!) as I announce the need for volunteers to assist with the following roles at our club meetings for the 1st half of 2025: Greeter (& "Daily Lotto" sales), Invocation Speaker, & Meeting/Technology Set-Up.
My most sincere appreciation and gratitude goes out to the faithful “regulars” I have been able to consistently count on to help fill the respective roles or jump in last minute to cover an empty slot (you know who you are). I also appreciate the handful of "newcomers" (both established and newer members) who helped throughout the course of last year or expressed a willingness to do so moving forward.
I would like to encourage anyone that has either never served as Greeter or Invocator (or who has only done so sparingly) to consider volunteering for a few slots during this 1st half of 2025 - I'd be immensely thankful to see my list of "regulars" grow. Not only are these roles a much appreciated and valued service to the club, but they also present an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in the weekly meetings.
If you need help signing up, please let me know and I can direct you to the appropriate location on the Rotary Club of Akron website, or I will gladly fill in your name for whatever date(s) you are able and willing to volunteer. For convenience, here is the public URL to the relevant volunteer sign-up page:
For Greeters, please plan to arrive by 11:40ish (if possible) and be prepared to help sell Daily Lotto raffle tickets and have the speaker pull the winning ticket at the end of the meeting.
For Invocation Speakers, I have provided some links with sample invocations below. You are quite welcome to create your own invocation, of course, but please know that custom content is not a requirement! I am happy to assist with this too. In fact, I'll even provide an invocation for you to read if that's what it will take for you to sign up. I assure you, this need not be an intimidating volunteer role for the meeting!
For Meeting/Technology Set-Up, the duties currently require:
Ensuring the computer, projector, and microphones are all up and running smoothly before the start of the meeting. NOTE: Brian Kosarko, Michael Gladysz, or I can/will help train new volunteers - we would certainly appreciate expanding the rotation for this role.
If necessary, correcting the flag positioning so that when viewed from the audience, the U.S./American Flag is to the left of the speaker/podium and the Ohio Flag is on the right.
Thank you in advance for volunteering!
Yours in service,
CJ
