Hello Akron Rotary Club,

This past week we have had some great things happen for our club. On July 19th Rotary Club of Akron’s immediate past president Julie Brandle accepted the following awards at the Rotary District Banner Exchange and Awards Ceremony in Cleveland.

On behalf of the club, Brandle accepted the Training and Educational Club Leadership Award. This award is presented to clubs that show commitment to the ideals and spirit of being a Rotarian. Likewise, Brandle was recognized with the same award individually.
 
In addition, our Club was awarded the AZ Baker Award in honor of Albert Z. Baker for recognition of our total service and development of resources on part of all clubs in District 6630. Congratulations to Julie and our Club!
 
Our Club meeting welcomed speaker Mike Kovacevich, a Civil War Historian.
 
Mike was not only informative about his subject, he gave us some great insights into some local history on how Akron and Summit county was affected and by whom. 
 
I look forward to hearing next week’s speaker Debbie Reiss, Director of Guardians Advocating Child Safety & Protection.
 
Looking forward to this Saturday. Best of luck to the Dragon Racers at Portage Lakes! Also, to a great showing at Infocision Stadium for the Cornhole Tournament!

Support the Dragonboat Race this Saturday! 
Dr. Rob McGregor and I are leading the club’s efforts in supporting the Dragons on the Lake Festival.  Our goal is to raise $2,500 for breast cancer survivors. 
 
The Dragons on the Lake Festival runs from 8am-3pm on Saturday July 28th at Portage Lakes State Park, 5031 Manchester Road, Akron, OH 44319. Details can be found here on the event’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/144522716251407/

IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID YOUR DUES . . .
Our new Rotary year began July 1st . . . Each member was sent an electronic invoice for the  2018-19 Akron Rotary dues starting last May AND a few followup statements.  
 
The Club must pay International and District dues for our members at the beginning of the new Rotary year.  Please kindly pay your dues as soon as possible to help us with our cash flow.
