Youth Protection Training:  A Simple Step That Makes a Lasting Impact

One of the most important ways we live out Rotary's commitment to youth is by ensuring that every member completes our annual Youth Protection Awareness training. This training is required for all Rotary Club of Akron members each fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) and helps us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for the youth we serve through our programs and activities.

If you have not yet completed this year's training, please check your inbox for an email from NAYEN Training Administrator (noreply@nayen.org) with the subject line "Rotary District 6630 Training Course: Youth Protection Awareness." The email contains your personal link to access the training. If you cannot locate the email, please be sure to check your spam or junk folder as well.

To date, only 17 members have completed this year's training. We need everyone's participation to ensure our club remains compliant and continues to uphold Rotary's commitment to youth protection. The training is straightforward, completed online, and only takes a short amount of time.

If you have not yet completed your training, please make it a priority to do so as soon as possible. Protecting youth is everyone's responsibility, and your participation helps the Rotary Club of Akron continue creating a safe and lasting impact in our community.

If you have any questions or experience any issues accessing the training, please contact me directly at michael.h.gladysz@huntington.com and I will be happy to assist.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this important requirement and for your continued commitment to Rotary's mission and values.

17th Annual Cornhole Tournament Celebrates Another Successful Tourney!

This year, we introduced three brackets to play in:

  • Top Tier (very skilled)
  • Lower (competent players), and
  • Backyard Division (just for fun and bragging rights).

We had a total of 60 teams participating! Another exciting addition was the Scoreholio app, developed in Cleveland. This innovative tool streamlined registration, bracket assignments, and management of playtime, significantly enhancing the overall experience and efficiency of the day!

The day was a tremendous success, and we are very excited to announce that we raised $32,700! Proceeds from the event will ensure that no child is turned away due to their family’s inability to pay. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Rotarians, Rotary Family, and Rotary Friends from Akron and throughout District 6630. Your support through sponsorships, donations, registration, volunteering at the event, purchasing raffle tickets, and more has been invaluable!

Participants and volunteers savored a delicious lunch provided by Menche’s Bros Food Truck, indulged in ice cream from Handel’s, and enjoyed a selection of refreshing beverages to stay cool!

Congratulations to all the winners. Hope you will joins us next August as we will once again let the bags fly for the kids!

October 8: More than just a Club Social…

We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming Rotary Night Out, a fantastic opportunity to connect, relax, and support those that support us.

Mark your calendars for October 8, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Hoppin' Frog Brewery, located at 1680 E Waterloo Rd, Akron, OH 44306.

This event is more than just a social gathering; it's a chance to show appreciation. Hoppin' Frog has been a generous supporter of our Annual Chili Open, and this evening is a perfect way to give back to them and celebrate the new ownership team. Plus, it's a relaxed setting to meet fellow members and enjoy great company.

Remember, there is no cost to attend, and all food and drinks will be purchased individually. We encourage everyone to bring friends and family to make this event even more special. Your participation helps us build a stronger, more engaged Rotary community.

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing a memorable evening together. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to connect and support our local business!

Warm regards,
Dave Miller
Social Chair
