Arts Now and Summit DD

Nicole Mullet

Nicole serves as the Executive Director of ArtsNow, an organization that helps build and strengthen a thriving Summit County arts and culture scene to add economic vitality and social vibrancy to our region. In this role, she collaborates with local leaders and organizations to advocate for the arts and culture sector, connects local talent to resources, and leads a team that promotes the diverse catalog of arts and culture offerings across multiple platforms to Summit County residents.

In 2023, Nicole was invited to serve on the Support Summit DD Levy Advisory Committee, demonstrating her commitment to furthering this vital cause. The board of trustees for The University of Akron confirmed President Gary Miller’s appointment of Nicole to a UA seat on the board of the Northeastern Educational Television of Ohio, Inc. (NETO) in February of 2020. In addition, Nicole serves on the board of United Disability Services (UDS) and was elected to serve a second term with the Private Sector Network Council of Americans for the Arts representing Summit County and Ohio.

Nicole received the Metamorphosis Award for Transformational Leadership from the Akron Zoo in 2024 and the Spotlight Award from Collide: Cuyahoga Falls in 2023. In 2020, Nicole received the Glass Half Full award from the GAR Foundation and in August of 2019, she was selected by Crain’s Cleveland Business as a Notable Women in Nonprofit.

Nicole is a graduate of Leadership Akron Class 34 and is a proud alumna of Torchbearers, where she served as member, committee chair, and board member from 2013 to 2017 and as president in 2016.

Support Rotary Camp TOMORROW  -- SATURDAY August 24
You read that right!  This Saturday, August 24, is the 15th Annual Cornhole Tournament supporting Rotary Camp. 8:00-2:00is at Rotary Camp!

The forecast for weather is perfect -- moderate summer temperatures and no sign of rain.  The forecast for fun is outstanding! We'll have recreational and more skilled teams competing, lunch available from Menches food truck, beverages and ice cream sandwiches too!  There are raffle baskets available at the event (buy the tickets there but you can arrange later pickup if needed). If you can help us out by volunteering that day even for a short time call me 330.780.7925 or ask for me or for Amanda Warner at the event.

Can't make it Saturday?  There are still two ways to participate:

Online raffle with special prizes: 1. Beluga e-bike donated by Blimp City Bike and Hike; 2. Pro Football Hall of Fame package or 3. Chili Open 2025 golf Foursome. Tickets are 1 for $10; 3 for $25 or 7 for $50. Order online at bit.ly/cornholeraffle.

There is a direct donation link at the Cornhole site bit.ly/rotarycampcornhole24.

Thanks for all you do for Rotary and Rotary Camp,

Doug Hausknecht -- Cornhole Volunteer Coordinator
OPEN M Backpack Project Restarting Soon!
Hopefully you had an amazing summer!  On September 4th Open M will resume their Food Backpack Program for food insecure students at Innes Middle School.  Akron Rotary continued its support of the supplemental food service through a 2024 Akron Rotary Foundation grant.

The schedule worked great last year, so we're keeping it:  packing on Wednesdays from 3-4 pm and pickup/delivering on Thursdays at 9 am.  Use the link below to volunteer!

Thank you to Christopher Billow
Christopher M. Billow serves as a judicial attorney for the Hon. Donna J. Carr at the Ninth District Court of Appeals.  He presented at our club on August 20th.
He was a very engaging and interesting presenter.  It was educational to learn about the Court of Appeals and Christopher's role.

A special thanks for staying after the the meeting closed to continue talking with people and answering even more questions!

He is the brother of Club President Thane Billow - you may see the resemblance in the photo at the right!

Chris serves on the Advisory Board for Catholic Charities of Summit County. Chris is also a member of Bluecoats, Inc. and the Lawyers Guild for the Diocese of Cleveland. In the past, Chris has served on the board of directors for Torchbearers as well as the Akron Bar Association, in an ex officio capacity.

Chris graduated with honors from the College of Wooster in 2005 and from the University of Toledo College of Law in 2008.  While at Wooster, Chris was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, as well as the Phi Alpha Theta Honorary for History Scholars and the Pi Sigma Alpha Honorary for Political Science.

Chris and his wife Teresa reside in Tallmadge with their daughter.
