

Dr. Visco’s current research focuses on the motivators for and barriers to popular culture usage in the English classroom. In addition, he is training pre-service teachers to effectively use pop culture and technology to motivate, enhance, and improve student's literacy learning and as a way to develop social emotional learning practices to benefit all. He has presented his research on pop culture all over the country and has been published in numerous journals and books. Most recently he was the recipient of the 2024 University of Akron Supporting the Student Experience Award, the 2023 Ohio Council of Teachers of English Language Arts Outstanding Educator Award, and the 2023 University of Akron Outstanding Teacher award.
