Embracing Futures
Amber Genet Barkoukis serves as the Executive Director of Embracing Futures, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged children in Summit, Stark, Portage, Medina, and Wayne counties. Embracing Futures provides vital financial assistance for orthodontic care and oral health education, empowering children to achieve healthier, more confident futures.
Amber earned her bachelor’s degrees in Public Relations and Business Communications and a master’s degree in Communications from The University of Akron. Her academic foundation complements her passion for making a meaningful impact through strategic communication and nonprofit leadership.
Amber’s dedication to her community has also been recognized. She is a recipient of the Greater Akron Chamber’s 30 for the Future award and has been honored as the Woman of the Year for Creativity by the Summit County Historical Society. Additionally, the South Summit Chamber of Commerce named her Community Leader of the Year.
Amber currently serves on the Children’s Museum Board of Directors and The University of Akron National Alumni Board of Directors. Previously she was on the Board of United Disability Services of Akron, Association of Fundraising Professionals of Northeast Ohio and Downtown Akron Partnership further showcasing her commitment to fostering growth and connection in her community.
A proud alumna of Leadership Akron’s Signature Class 34, Torchbearers Akron and Rotary Club of Akron, Amber demonstrates a commitment to servant leadership and community development. With her passion and dedication, Amber remains committed to fostering opportunities that bring hope and transformative change to the lives of children and families across Northeast Ohio.
Amber finds her greatest joy in spending time with her husband, Paul, and their two children, Evan and Ryan, as they explore the many attractions and experiences Northeast Ohio has to offer.nts with friends and family.
