Akron Fossils and Science Center

William Sanderson owned Independence Financial Group, a full financial planning firm, and had been in practice for over forty-three years, until he merged his practice with another firm in 2018. He is a Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter, has a B.S. in Education from Miami University, and a Master’s Degree  in Christian Leadership from Malone University. (The equivalent to a Masters in Divinity, without the Greek and Hebrew.) He is a former member of Malone University’s Graduate School Advisory Board, has served as an adjunct professor there, and received the Alumni of the year award in 1996. He has been a speaker, presenter, and workshop director, on many topics both professionally and for topics that are avocational.

He founded Akron Fossils and Science Center in 2005 and continues as CEO. This family oriented educational facility features Science classes, Super Science Saturdays, Summer Camps, Birthday Parties, Lecture Series, and an outdoor Adventureland, called, “Truassic Park” which has a 200’ zipline, a 56’ slide, a low ropes challenge course, along with all kinds of fun swings, slides and twirly apparatus. 

Bill continues to take groups on wilderness canoe trips to the Minnesota/Canadian boundary waters in northern Minnesota, sharing the wonders of creation, and providing memories of adventure, similar to those chronicled in his book, Getting the Wilderness in You.  

Bill is a competitive sailor and has taken up golf after a 40-year hiatus. He is married to Lynn, has 5 children, 6 grandchildren, resides in Akron, Ohio, and Bradenton Beach, Florida.
