PDG Harig Attends Council Session
For those of you who may have missed the email that was sent out ... here is an update that Jack Harig provided from the Council session he attended this month.

I thought I would share just a little about the Council through last evening Monday 26 April 2010. My current seat mates are from Algeria, Bulgaria, New Zeeland, Netherlands, Brazil, and Italy. You may recall the District Governor from India I have spoken about, his name is Bawa from my class of governors. He his here as well as many others. There are 515 of us credentialed as of yesterday morning. The fall out from the volcano affected many.
We started with a 2 hour orientation on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 PM CDT. Basic procedures, expectations of delegates, presentations of additions and changes to legislation were distributed. There were two especially important presentations, one on the Strategic Plan which has become more narrowly focused on three major points. I will give you more depth on that later. It is important and good.
The other very important topic was on the historical performance of RI in terms of Budgets and actual performance. It has been a wild ride for them. Investment income went South and the impacts were hateful at best. The good news is that at not time did they have to sell any investments to keep services to members solid and running. Staff and leadership modified budgets, curtailed spending and have maintained RI in a sound financial condition.
In the first day we covered dealt with 38 pieces of legislation in the areas of Club Meetings, Attendance, ( requirements, make ups and others), and Club Meetings. Today we will start out with Membership issues. Out of the 38 items, 10 were approved, 19 failed with the balance either withdrawn or placed on hold for latter action.
This is an impressive process, well administered with hot and lengthy debate at times. The action on Dues will come up later with a substantial reduction in the initial proposals for increase in RI Dues to come to the floor. The proposal from the North Ridgeville Club will come to the floor most likely on Wed or Thursday. The sister club will propose it and I will give a support 1:30 presentation from District 6630.
