Camp Update
Dear Fellow Rotarians!
What a busy fall it has been. Currently Rotary Camp is serving more campers than ever before during our monthly respite weekends. We also hosted our first Halloween Trick or Treat Open House. There were over 150 neighbors, campers, and volunteers at Rotary Camp for this ghoulish event. In fact, it sparked so much interest from our neighbors, we are hosting a Holiday Open House on December 19th. Please feel free to join us!
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce two new Rotary Camp staff who will be joining us in December. Josh Strelbicki is our new program director. He is responsible for hiring staff, managing summer camp and respite programs, and creating new program opportunities throughout the year. Josh is a recent graduate from Slippery Rock University and has been a seasonal staff member at Rotary Camp for a number of years. Most recently this past summer Josh hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.
We are also very excited to announce Bonnie Wojno will be joining our staff team as our development director. This new position will kick off our capital campaign and also provide leadership to camp's other fundraising efforts, including the Chili Open, grant writing, annual giving, and endowment. Bonnie is coming from Holy Family Parish in Stow where she lead a $3.5 million capital campaign. Bonnie also has a background in university development.
The camp executive board is also changing in 2010. We are excited to announce the follow slate of officers was approved at the October 2009 board meeting to begin January 2010:
President – Frank Horn
Vice President – Bridget Ambrisco
Secretary – Mike Wojno
Treasurer – Doug Mathey
I would be remiss not to thank Mark Krohn and Charlie Benko for their leadership over the past few years. With the support of the entire camp board and Rotary Club of Akron they have worked very hard to make this capital campaign a reality. While they are rolling off the executive committee of the board, they are both very committed to continuing to staying involved and helping our camp further its mission.
As the holidays are quickly approaching, please take time to enjoy the friends and fellowship that Rotary offers all of us. It is through this extended network that we are able to do so much for so many individuals and families in our community. The Barrett Christmas Party on December 15 and the Holiday Gala on December 18 are great opportunities to share the joy of the season.
