Torrey's Trip to Barcelona, Spain
We went to see the Sagrada Familia. Those of you who have not heard of the Sagrada Familia do these two things: 1. read this brief description I will give you, and 2. look it up on the internet because it will know more than me.
The Sagrada Familia is a gorgeously built building by the famous artist Gaudi. It was built over 100 years ago and it is still being built today. They say it wont be finished for over 50 more years to come. This building(when I first saw it) reminded me of Disneys castle, because in life it kind of looks like it, except its totally different. It looks like the whole entire building was almost made of melted candle wax, and the entrance is so gorgeous! (if you guys want to see good photos add me on facebook: Torrey Hollis). Then after that I proceeded to buy a Barcelona Soccer jersey because we had decided that night that we were going to go to the Barcelona game against Racing. 25e for a Barcelona jersey with MY NAME ON IT!!! TOTALLY AMAZING!! (also funny because my host family DISLIKES Barcelona so much and everytime I wear the shirt the have a joke with me now. When I walk in the room their like "out!!!" hhaha!).
Then we proceeded to go to Park Gui. (sp?). Park Gui is a beautiful park filled with all kinds of Gaudi art and from the edges, you can see all of Barcelona. There is one spot of this park that reminds you of the movies you see when people go to Barcelona, it looked so perfect I honestly didn't think we could have actually been there!
Then after that we ran to the metro station to meet 2 other Rotary Exchange Students that I know that live in Barcelona. Blake Carr, and Brandon Paddock.
They showed us around "Las Rambas" (sp?) which is the old part of town that now is converted into what I think is one of the best shopping but also very high priced areas. We went to the beach and walked around there, played on the jungle gym there on the beach, we felt like little kids running around!
After that we had to go catch a metro for the SOCCER GAME!!! We had to wait for 3 different metros because all were packed to tight (and all heading to the game) that it took forever to finally get on one!
The Football Stadium in Barcelona I believe is the 2nd or 3rd biggest, and it was HUGE!! Thank gosh Barcelona won when we were there 4-0 or I think there would have been a riot!! Everyone was either for Barcelona or hated(hahhah!). They even did the wave at the game too!!! Three times around the whole stadium! I cant even imagine how those guys got it started first of all!!!!! So after the game (which was dirty because Racing the other team, played quite a dirty game), we headed back to the Hostel and later went out to dinner around 12ish and got Ice cream.
So this is my fun filled day in Barcelona!!!!! The next day we were so tired we just kind of did little things. Our feet hurt SO MUCH that we were like "no were so not doing anything if it involves walking over 50 steps" (hahha!).
Then at 4 we caught our Train back to Valenciaaaaaaaaa!! Home sweet home!
I hope to go back to Barcelona some day, for me I think it was even cooler than Italy!!!!!
(will send an update on Italy too, all of us on the trip have to get together and write a summary of it (haha)
Thanks so much for this wonderful opportunity,
Torrey
